SBMS Leads HKU Body Donation Day 2026: Strengthening the Foundations of Medical Excellence
The HKU School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) has successfully concluded HKU Body Donation Day 2026, a flagship Knowledge Exchange (KE) initiative that brought together nearly 400 participants under the theme "Before the Curtain Call" (人生謝幕前).
While SBMS is globally recognised for world-class research, we also act as the official custodian of the HKU Body Donation Programme. This stewardship is central to our pedagogical mission: providing the essential anatomical and humanistic foundation for the MBBS curriculum. By overseeing this vital bridge between the public and the clinical classroom, SBMS ensures that Hong Kong’s future doctors learn from "Great Body Teachers"—attaining a level of precision and empathy that remains irreplaceable by AI or textbooks.
2026 Programme Highlights:
- Interdisciplinary Synergy: In collaboration with the HKUMed Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit and the Critical Care Medicine Unit, we facilitated professional dialogues that reframed end-of-life planning as a proactive act of care.
- Immersive Learning: The public engaged with the science of anatomy through advanced VR and "A Journey to the End: An Immersive Experience," a session designed to demystify funeral rituals and encourage life reflection.
- Strategic Outreach: Driven by strong public interest, SBMS is now scaling its efforts to foster deeper interdisciplinary collaboration and raise awareness within the younger generation and ethnic minority communities.
By leading this programme, SBMS continues to champion a medical education that is as compassionate as it is scientifically rigorous.
